Empowering to grow: how Nuwa Muun drives productivity and equity in Peruvian cocoa
In the Peruvian Amazon, cocoa is more than an economic opportunity—it is a source of empowerment for hundreds of cocoa-farming families, especially women producers. Aware of this reality, at Machu Picchu Foods we drive the Nuwa Muun project, an initiative designed to enhance productivity, gender equality and sustainability within the cocoa value chain.
A few months before its conclusion, Nuwa Muun is showing clear, positive results:
- More than a 20% increase in productivity compared to 2022.
- Delivery of 259 tons of organic fertilizers to beneficiary cocoa producers.
- A community that promotes women’s empowerment.
These results reflect the impact of an intervention model that combines technical knowledge, personalized support, and environmental sustainability as drivers of transformation.
A comprehensive approach to sustainable cocoa
The project has been developed around three key components:
- Capacity building: continuous training in sustainable agricultural practices and cocoa farm management.
- Soil analysis and planned fertilization: implementation of technical diagnostics to identify the nutritional needs of crops.
- Fertilization with personalized technical assistance: direct support to apply organic fertilizers efficiently and responsibly.
Thanks to this approach, Nuwa Muun not only improves productivity but also promotes more resilient agriculture that values soil as a vital resource.
Productivity with social impact
The impact of Nuwa Muun goes beyond performance improvement—it fosters inclusion and the well-being of cocoa-growing communities, especially women who actively participate in cocoa farm management.
Through its implementation, we contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 1: No poverty, by strengthening the economic resilience of farming families.
- SDG 5: Gender equality, by promoting female leadership within the cocoa value chain.
- SDG 10: Reduced inequalities, by generating equitable opportunities for rural development.
Building a sustainable future for Peruvian cocoa
Nuwa Muun represents Machu Picchu Foods’ commitment to the integral development of cocoa-producing communities and the creation of a fairer and more sustainable supply chain.
Every fertilized hectare, every soil analysis, and every training session reflects our purpose of creating shared value, where productivity translates into well-being and sustainability.
Let’s join forces as allies to bring Nuwa Muun to more cocoa-growing communities, driving sustainability from the field and amplifying the voices of women leading the transformation of cocoa.
Because cultivating sustainable cocoa also means cultivating equality, knowledge, and a shared future.
