Sustainability in Action: Promoting Reading in the Heart of the VRAEM
Four years ago, we launched the Ñawinchay project, designed to strengthen access to quality education for children in cocoa-producing communities of the VRAEM. To date, it has benefited more than 300 students through initiatives that encourage a love for reading.
Today, we are proud to celebrate a new milestone: the opening of the Ñawinchay Library at the school in Amargura, Ayacucho.
This community faced significant challenges accessing books and learning spaces. Thanks to the collaboration of local leaders, strategic partners, and the dedicated corporate volunteers of the MPF team, we transformed an unused area into an eco-friendly library—equipped with educational materials and furniture designed to inspire future generations.
This milestone adds to Ñawinchay’s achievements and reinforces our vision of generating tangible impact in cocoa-producing regions.
Four pillars behind Ñawinchay’s success
The Ñawinchay Library is built upon four key pillars:
1. Infrastructure and renewable energy
We transformed an unused school area into a safe, welcoming, and functional library. A photovoltaic system was installed to power the space sustainably, along with reading furniture and shelves designed to encourage learning.
2. Over 200 books donated by our team
Through a corporate volunteer campaign, the MPF team collected and donated more than 200 books—including children’s stories, schoolbooks, and encyclopedias. Volunteer squads helped sort, catalog, and prepare the space for daily use by students.
3. Strategic partner contributions
Thanks to the support of Telenergy and Grupo G&C, we enhanced the library with essential materials, equipment, and logistical support, significantly improving its quality and accelerating its opening.
4. Community involvement
Teachers, parents, and local families played a key role in adapting the space. We also provided training in library management, along with practical tools to ensure its sustainable use both in school and at home.
More than a library: A commitment to the future
Ñawinchay is not just an educational project. It is a tool for social transformation and a cornerstone of our sustainability strategy. It aims to foster reading habits, spark imagination, and position education as a catalyst for development in cocoa-producing communities.
Through this initiative, Machu Picchu Foods reaffirms its commitment to a purposeful, sustainable business model—one that creates value beyond the supply chain.
Education, sustainability, and origin: The pillars of purpose-driven Cocoa
This library represents more than a physical space. It reflects our belief that sustainable cocoa begins with empowered producers, informed families, and children who have access to opportunity.
Ñawinchay is one of our social sustainability programs in Peru’s cocoa regions. It embodies a business model rooted in well-being, equity, and transformation from the origin.
