Regenerative agriculture in action
At Machu Picchu Foods, we believe that true quality cocoa is born from respect for both the land and the people. That’s why, in partnership with Earthworm Foundation, we launched the Clima – Paisaje Project: an initiative that promotes regenerative agriculture as a tool to create resilient, living, and sustainable farms.
A two-phase project that is already bearing fruit:
- Phase 1: Collaboration with 10 producers committed to transforming their farms.
- Phase 2: Work with over 300 hectares committed to transitioning toward sustainable systems.
Today, we celebrate a major milestone: the completion of Phase 1 with our first practical workshop held in Campo Verde, Ucayali, where our 10 farmers received technical training and the motivation to lead real change in their communities.
From knowledge to impact: How phase 1 of the project unfolded
Phase 1 of the Clima – Paisaje Project marked a key step in our commitment to more sustainable agriculture. In this initial stage, we worked hand in hand with 10 producers who embraced the challenge of transforming their farms.
Implementation was comprehensive: seeds were delivered and installed directly with each producer, restoration efforts and tree planting were carried out, and a monitoring system was designed to measure carbon capture. Practical workshops and validation sessions were also held to present and fine-tune the project’s technical protocols.
Beyond technical training, the workshops created spaces for open dialogue where farmers exchanged insights on successful agroforestry systems, highlighting their economic, ecological, and social benefits.
“This project aims to capture carbon, reduce emissions, and thus contribute to the environment — but also to support farmers in protecting their soils, thereby improving productivity on their farms.” – Rolly Calvo, Agriculture and Resilience Specialist, Clima – Paisaje Project
The workshop didn’t just provide practical tools — it also reinforced the farmers’ confidence in their ability to lead change.
“I feel happy to take part in this type of project, and I’m glad to see the increase in production.” – Marilu Vasquez, Cocoa farmer
Her words reflect the spirit of this initiative: a collaborative effort for rural development, ecosystem regeneration, and the creation of a truly sustainable landscape.
We work with the best partners for real impact
We believe meaningful change happens with the right allies. That’s why we developed this project alongside Earthworm Foundation, an international organization with deep expertise in responsible supply chain transformation.
Their technical knowledge, participatory approach, and long-term vision have been fundamental in designing strategies that work in the field. Earthworm has been a strategic partner in every step of the journey, ensuring that our impact is both tangible for producer communities and sustainable for the planet.
Why choose a company committed to sustainability?
Because we don’t just make chocolate. We create impact from the source.
By working with Machu Picchu Foods, you choose a partner committed to regenerative agriculture:
- We restore soils through regenerative practices, including the use of ground cover vegetation.
- We fight climate change through carbon capture and emissions reduction.
- We boost productivity and promote long-term farm resilience through techniques like pruning and soil fertilization.
Regenerative agriculture is not just a technique — it’s a way to transform the present and protect the future.
