Reforesting the future of cacao
Climate resilience has become a key factor for the future of agriculture and the competitiveness of the cacao industry. Increasing variability in environmental conditions is putting traditional farming systems to the test. In this context, strengthening the adaptive capacity of cacao farms is essential not only to protect the environment, but also to ensure long-term productivity and operational continuity.
At Machu Picchu Foods, we embrace this challenge through Caosacha, a comprehensive reforestation program designed to enhance the resilience of our cacao farms and ensure the sustainability of our entire value chain.
Under the pillars of Climate Action, Emission Reduction, and Organic Agriculture approaches, the project seeks to increase forest cover and capture carbon dioxide through a rigorous four-stage methodology: diagnosis, analysis, reforestation and monitoring.
Science and data at the service of reforestation
Unlike conventional reforestation initiatives, Caosacha is supported by Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), which enables the precise measurement of environmental impact across the chocolate value chain.
During 2025, the project has achieved key field milestones, reflecting our commitment to transparency and technical rigor:
- 5,416 trees inventoried: Detailed biodiversity characterization to monitor ecosystem health.
- 339 farms assessed: Data collection to optimize cocoa farm management in strategic areas.
- 60 technical advisors trained: Strengthening technical capabilities to ensure proper field implementation.
A driver of competitiveness and global compliance
The Caosacha Project not only addresses environmental responsibility but also strengthens access to international markets. By ensuring compliance with the 10% tree cover requirement, we support the permanence of our cocoa farms in key certifications such as Rainforest Alliance (RA), NCP, and compliance with European Union (EU) regulations.
Additionally, this technically driven forest management approach positions Machu Picchu Foods as a key player in developing solutions that enable access to sustainable financing mechanisms, such as carbon credits.
Commitment to the future of cocoa supply
Through Caosacha, Machu Picchu Foods reaffirms its purpose of creating shared value by investing in environmental technology and biodiversity conservation.
Strategic reforestation is now a key factor in ensuring high-quality cocoa that is climate-resilient and prepared for future challenges.
