Ñawinchay: Sustainable education in cocoa‑growing communities
At Machu Picchu Foods, we believe sustainability starts with cocoa and extends through every stage of the value chain.
That’s why we created Ñawinchay, an initiative that promotes reading habits and access to educational resources in the communities where our farmers live.
We celebrate a milestone that reflects our purpose: the inauguration of the Ñawinchay Library in the community of Chazuta (San Martín), made possible thanks to the support of one of our key clients, strategic partners and MPF volunteers. This collaboration has positively impacted more than 120 children, creating opportunities that will last for generations.
Reading as a driver of community well-being
In Chazuta, where cocoa is part of everyday life for many families, the school has become a renewed, eco-friendly space where children have opportunities to imagine and learn.
This library is more than shelves and books; it’s a haven for creativity and knowledge, a place that strengthens cultural identity and opens doors to a brighter future.
All of this was possible thanks to the joint effort of the community, teachers and partners who believe in the power of reading as a tool for change.
Three pillars that bring Ñawinchay to life
Sustainable infrastructure: we transformed a classroom into a library equipped with eco-friendly furniture, shelves and a welcoming environment for learning.
- Sustainable infrastructure: we transformed a classroom into a library equipped with eco-friendly furniture, shelves and a welcoming environment for learning.
- Reading promotion and book donation: through internal campaigns and partner contributions, we gathered over 250 books for different educational levels, with content that reinforces the cultural identity of cocoa-growing communities.
- Community participation: parents, teachers and students actively collaborated in preparing the space and participating in workshops on library management and reading mediation, ensuring long-term sustainability.
More than a library: a network of shared purpose
Projects like Ñawinchay connects companies, communities and families around a common goal: creating more opportunities for cocoa-growing regions. This project proves that impact is greater when we work together and when brands choose to partner with a sustainable chocolate manufacturer.
Why does it matter? Because behind every chocolate bar there’s a story. Choosing a manufacturer committed to sustainability means guaranteeing traceability, respect for people and the environment, and real social impact in the places where cocoa is born. Your brand doesn’t just deliver quality—it delivers purpose.
